Orlando
García

Medellín – Colombia

Architect, Urbanist from the University Pontificia Bolivariana de Medellín. Lives and works in New York City, and founded his own firm Atelier Garcia.

García collaborated with Laboratory of Architecture and Urbanism (LAUR) at the UPB in the design and construction of the Pies Descalzos Park and EPM Interactive Museum in Medellin in 2001.

Orlando received several awards and honors including in several occasions, the Design Award of excellence from the Society of American Registered Architects (SARA) in New York.

Orlando received an honorable mention in the XXIII Colombian Biennial of Architecture in the category of architectural project with the
Fernando Botero Library Park in 2012.

In 2014, Orlando was selected as a finalist in the “Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Init iative Program” to collaborate Peter Zumthor in 2014.

Orlando was also nominated as a finalist in the “Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize” with the Fernando Botero Library Park as one of the 36 most relevant buildings built in the Americas within the last decade.

In 2015, The Museum of Modern Art of New York (MoMA) acquired a model and several drawings of the Fernando Botero Library Park to be part of the permanent collection.

In 2018, Orlando received a special recognition from Medellin City Council for his o utstanding professional career.
